Celebrating Your Wedding in our Parish

We welcome you and your family and friends to Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Parish. We hope that you and your guests enjoy the celebration of your marriage in our churches. A request to be married in the Parish presupposes an awareness of the religious dimension of the occasion.
The following is a brief guide to assist you in planning for your wedding in one of our Churches.
Requirements for a Catholic Marriage Ceremony is that one partner must be a baptised Catholic and neither person previously married or divorced.
Your priest will guide you through the process of preparation and will be responsible for all the papers, required by both government and by the Church.
In choosing to have your wedding in Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Parish you are choosing to celebrate the Roman Catholic Rite of Marriage. While your priest will lead you step by step through the Rite of Marriage, we will provide the publication “When We Marry” to assist you in planning the wedding. Your priest will assist you with your marriage ceremony and will advise you as to how family and friends can participate in this memorable occasion.
If you are interested, Liturgy Brisbane offers Labora Marriage on their website which costs $30 and offers readings and prayers from the new revised Order of Celebrating Matrimony as well as music suggestions. Further information can be found on the Liturgy Brisbane website: www.liturgybrisbane.net.au/store/publications/labora-marriage.html
You will need to obtain, certified copies of your Full Birth Certificate and a copy of your Baptismal Certificate. These documents are required for the completion of all necessary Church and Government documentation. Copies of your Baptism certificates can be obtained by contacting the Parish Office of the Church where you were baptized. We require a copy of the Baptism certificate to be no older than 6mths. The Birth Certificates can be obtained by contacting the Register of Births, Deaths and Marriages (Australia only).
The Parish fee to cover the costs is $500. This fee covers all costs associated with the conduct of the service and includes all paperwork, processing pre-marriage forms and lodging pre-nuptial forms after the ceremony as well as your Certificate of Marriage. The official Government Certificate can be obtained from the Registrar of Births, Deaths & Marriages. An invoice for costs will be sent eight weeks prior to your wedding and we would ask you to pay this account by mail, electronic transfer or in person to the Parish Office at least two weeks prior to your wedding date.
On the day of your wedding, you will be aware of the importance for the Bridal party to be on time and not to be under the influence of alcohol, as you will be signing legal documentation. If any member of the wedding party is under the influence of alcohol, this could result in the Priest not being able to perform your wedding.
The commitment you make in Marriage is probably the most important you will make in your life. Anything we can do to assist you in preparing to make that commitment is important to us. We wish you every happiness during these days of engagement and preparation and ask you to contact the Parish Office on 5465 3131 if we can assist you further.
